For staining developers I usually use an alkaline fix such as TF-3 but for most other work, both film and paper, I use F-24 a fixer originally formulated by Kodak. Interestingly, this is the fixer used by Gordon Hutchings in his book The Book of Pyro.

This is a basic, slightly acidic fixer that will work for film and paper.

F-24 working solution

Do not dilute.
Fix film for twice the clearing time. Fix paper for 2 minutes for FB paper or 1 minute for RC.

Warm water 500ml
Sodium thiosulfate (hypo) pentahydrate 240g
Sodium sulphite Anhyd. 10g
sodium metabisulphite 25g
Water to make 1 ltr
